Another Happy CX-1 Customer

Earlier this year you helped me with my new bike: a freakin’ awesome Colnago CX-1. Just wanted to let you know that five months after receiving it I still wake up every morning totally excited to ride. The thing climbs, corners, descends, and rolls like nothing I’ve ever heard of. It’s comfortable, smooth, and sooo good looking. But the best thing about it is that no one else has one! In five months of ownership I’ve only seen one other guy on a CX-1. It’s so neat to ride a bike that is different and unique.

My new bike has also helped me get my racing career off to a great start, with 3 top five finishes in my first 4 races! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the race where I didn’t finish top five was on my crummy old Trek 1000!

Thanks again for building such an awesome bike for me! I’ve included a picture for you so you can see your work of art in action (the bike that is… not me).

A study from researchers at the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health found that an increase in Quercetin, an antioxidant/anti-inflammatory compound found in fruits and veggies, boosts athletes VO2max and endurance capacity. The results showed increased levels of Quercetin over one week led to a 13.2 percent increase in subject's endurance and a 3.9 percent increase in their VO2max. Subjects were not varying exercise levels. Get the full story at mayoclinic.com.

Former world road champion Zinaida Stahurskaia was killed Thursday in a training accident after being hit by a car. She was 38.

Officials from the Interior ministry in Belorussia confirmed her death Friday. Stahurskaia won the 2000 world title and the 2002 women’s Tour de France, but saw her legacy tainted when she served a two-year racing ban in 2006.

According to reports, a car coming from the opposite direction crossed into Stahurskaia’s lane and slammed into her head-on. Her trainer was following behind her in a car and had to swerve to avoid hitting on the oncoming car, officials said.

Stahurskaia, who has lived in Italy for several years, returned to her native Belorussia to train for this weekend’s national championships.

She had several run-ins with doping officials, with a pair of months-long bans in 2002 and 2004, before finally serving a two-year ban in 2006 after anti-doping controls found high levels of testosterone and an anabolic steroid in her system.

"The New French Revolution"

Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong will lead Team Astana at the Tour de France, starting July 4 in Monaco. The team announced its Tour line-up Thursday with a video release on its website, introducing “The New French Revolution”, as “9 Riders join forces to take over France.”

Contador, who won the Tour in 2007, and Armstrong, who won in 1999-2005, will be primarily supported by Andreas Klöden, who finished second in the Tour in 2004 and 2006, and Levi Leipheimer, who was third in the Tour in 2007.

Team manager Johan Bruyneel said that Contador “has worked very hard, earning the right to represent our team as the leader this July.” He added that Armstrong “is extremely motivated for the Tour de France.”

The squad also includes Yaroslav Popovych, Haimar Zubeldia, Sergio Paulinho, and Gregory Rast. Kazakh rider Dimitriy Muravyey completes the line up and will be making his Tour debut.
