Mill Valley Training Camp ride this past Saturday

This past weekend was the Mill Valley Training camp for riders to get in some nice long rides involving a variation of climbs, technical descents, and nice flats to practice a high TT pace. Definitely a ton of fun to be riding in a big group of riders who all knew what they were doing (for the most part). Check out some pics taken during the ride.

Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers - First Ride Review

If I said I wasn’t a victim of good marketing I would be lying, then again it’s only good marketing that I fall victim to in the first place. As consumers we learn about our products through the disclosure of manufactures and what they decide to share with us. With the hot release of the Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers. I thought to myself “were these the effects of good marketing”. At least That was what I thought. Then I rode them!

These are the 2012 Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers in the Beyond Black setup (with the exception of the decals which will be black) with black hubs, black spokes, and black nipples. The aero rims sits at 45mm tall with a brake-track width of 26.2mm while boasting a massive aero width of 28.5mm. These are equipped with the revised 2012 188 rear hub as well, adding more lateral stiffness to what is already designed to be a high performance wheel. As you read on, please keep in mind that I will be using references from previous rides with Mavic Ksyrium SL's, Shimano Dura Ace C24 clinchers, and Reynolds MV/C (same aero profile as the current Reynolds Thirty-Two carbon clincher wheels) carbon clinchers all equipped with the same Continental GP4000S 23mm tires on the same 2012 Pinarello Dogma 2 frame.

Campagnolo finally releasing news on their electronic shifting grouppo!

So after all the buzz, Campagnolo decided a while ago for the official press release on their EPS (Electrnic Power Shift) system to be today.

Of course those of you who are into the newest and greatest have heard about this already, and may have been given the impression that they are going to be available next month. After speaking with Campagnolo USA directly, we have found out that that is INCORRECT. They are going to have these units in for Distributors, 4 US Campagnolo Service Centers, and Press ONLY! Reason for this is that they want everyone selling these to have the proper knowledge and the correct information when installing, servicing, or even selling these beautiful Italian units. The EPS is scheduled for public availability Mid/Late Spring season if not Early Summer of 2012. However, pricing WILL be released for these soon, so pre-orders will be possible to ensure you get one of the first units that will land on US shores. Check out more pics of the final product below!

2012 Zipp 101 updates!

We all know and love Zipp for their Firecrest technology on their Carbon Clinchers and Carbon Tubular wheels. What about wheels for the winter? Or for those of us that prefer aluminum wheels for all purpose use? Zipp has a solution for that as well! Zipp 101 Aluminum Clinchers were introduced for those that wanted a wheel to use for any occasion, and for 2012, they were able to make these even more appealing.

Knolly Chilcotin: a downhiller's dream all-mountain bike

A couple weeks ago I finally received my dream all-mountain frame: Knolly Chilcotin. So what's the big deal? Why is the frame special?

First of all, the frame geometry really stands out to me. With a 160mm fork, the head angle is at 66 degrees, the bottom bracket is at 13.5" and the chainstay length is 16.75". For those of you that may not be too familiar with mountain bike geometry, this transfers to a bike that will rip down hill with confidence, take turns like it's on rails and have a very playful feel to it! My ideal bike indeed! Furthermore Noel Buckley (president of Knolly) spent a lot of time refining this frame to exactly what he wanted and it shows in the details of this frame. Oh yea, did I mention that the suspension feels amazing! It sucks up the roughest terrain and gets you back up the hill with ease. Ibis Silk SL with updated graphics

Often times we find ourselves striving for the best road bike out there. However, there are times when we're only looking for something that does what we need, and that's all.

Here we have a perfect frame that does all, looks great, and with supreme quality. The Ibis Silk SL.

More Time love today - NXR Instinct Module+!

Freshly done, ready to go, another French masterpiece completed for an excited new owner. Here we have a 2012 Time NXR Instinct Module+ ( Module+ means Time stem and handlebars were part of the order).

The client actually did not go with the Zipp 404 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers for this build. Instead, he will be replacing the wheels with the newly released Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers. We can't wait to see the type of riding this guy will be doing on our Strava club.

Colnago and Shimano meets again....

Of course with the first 2012 Colnago CX-1 Evo built with the new 2012 Shimano Ultegra Di2, we weren't going to stop there. Fortunately for this next client, we were able to put his bike together as well with the newly released electronic shifting components.

With some gaudy wording removed from the frame, the 2012 Colnago M10 looks even more sexy and appealing to the eyes.

For those of us out there who love having a cycling computer, but often find ourselves looking down to see the info of how we're doing during our ride, 4iiii has a solution for us to keep our eyes on the road and still know how we're doing at the same time.

Most of the cyclist out there typically have to deal with the woes of idiotic and/or jerk drivers. We do our best to use our best judgement when we're out riding to stay protected.

However........

....obviously these cyclists in this video think they can get past the waves (although one rider did make it without getting caught too badly in the waves).

TIME RXRS Ulteam Tour de France edition

Although Tour de France has ended for this year, that does not mean the spirit has gone with it. Here we have a limited edition Time RXRS Ulteam Tour de France Module built to perfection.

Built with complete Sram Red black as you can see from the cranks and rear derailleur, Mavic Ksyrium SLR wheelset was chosen to propel this beast up any hill and glide down any descent. Check out the awesome detailed pics of this build.

fi'zi:k Kurve saddles

All new for 2012 from fi'zi:k is their Kurve saddles, offered in 3 different fits. The Arione (the snake), Antares (the chameleon), and Aliante (the bull).

3 main features that are on the Kurve:

• Wing Flex - flexible wings that allows for more efficient pedal strokes by working with the rider, not against it.
• Mobius Rail - Complete one-piece circular rail construction eliminating pressure points while improving flex
• Tunable Nose - fi'zi:k's newest innovation. This is an interchangeable tension system at the nose of the saddle, allowing the rider to choose between a softer or a stiffer nose feel to the saddle.

We have SIX of these coming in next week, 2 Arione, 2 Antares, and 2 Aliante. These will be the ONLY KURVES available till end of December 2011 or January 2012.

Connecting the City - Biking through SF has just gotten better!

Biking in the city of San Francisco can be dangerous sometimes. We're often worried about cars, motorcycles, even pedestrians not paying attention to cyclists. This is a cool little clip that was shown to me through a friend who's thesis is "urban renewal" and I gotta say, this is definitely a way to gain more cycling awareness.

Time to save some gas money and get that dream bike you've always wanted. If you can't think of a place to purchase a bike, leave a comment. I think I may know a place that can help =)

2011 Interbike - Through the eyes of Wrench Science

So as a bicycle enthusiast, Interbike is always a great time of online enjoyment, drooling, or dreaming of new bikes, parts, or apparels. This year, it was no different. There were TONS of new items being displayed, and it definitely brings the phrase "a little kid in a big candy shop" into full effect.

We've been seeing lots of photos from Pros on these gorgeous 2012 Pinarello Dogma 2 all over the internet, so obviously we were super excited to see it in person when we received our pre-orders. Now that we have our first fully built one, we are jumping out of our skin!

Wednesday = "Need some inspiration"-Day

One thing that I've always had love for (even before the increased popularity on these cars) was the old school Porsches, specifically the 964 generation. RWB (RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF) is a known shop in Japan that's been in business for over 15 years. They are going to open an US location soon, so I am definitely looking forward to seeing their presence in the bay area.
